Thistle & Broom announced today that a mere seven (7) months after conceiving to marry the design efforts of former Roland Mouret protégé, Edinburgh designer ShônaghK with those of organic farm and weaving concern Ardalanish Farms, their exclusive Victoria's Twisted Riding Habit (VTRH) enjoyed an audience with HRH Prince Charles this past Thursday evening (02/02/06) at The Ritz Hotel, London. Heavy security prevented advance mention of the event.
So named for Prince Charles's great-grandmother Queen Victoria because of her love of Scotland and of horse back riding, the breathtaking VTRH was worn by Ardalanish Farms co-owner Minty Mackay. Thistle & Broom's two piece couture ensemble by ShônaghK was made of tweed woven by Isle of Mull Weavers located at, and from wool produced on, the organic farm she and her husband Aeneas own on the Isle of Mull. Her ensemble was completed with a cream coloured tuxedo blouse and antique jewellery.
After a long journey home to Mull, Mackay offered, "We had the pleasure of the Prince's company at Ardalanish a few years ago. My clothing was obviously a bit different on this occasion and to wear something named for Queen Victoria, and be able to share this with the Prince, was a unique honour." One of but a handful of women of the approximately 150 people in attendance at the Mutton Renaissance Dinner, Mackay was one of the select few presented to HRH on Thursday evening. Continuing, Mackay said, "My presence there was not merely for Ardalanish, but for all those who are in any way connected with Thistle & Broom, to support the way things can and are being done through Teresa's exclusive luxury brand for Scotland."
Teresa Fritschi, Thistle & Broom's managing director speaking from the United States where she is currently promoting her company at a variety of Burns' Night celebrations added, "Having VTRH worn to an audience with HRH is something I couldn't have imagined a year ago. It's ever more surreal when you consider that it took Thomas Burberry 99 years to be awarded a Royal Warrant, posthumously, and that Thistle & Broom commenced trading less than a year ago."
