A' Mhaighdean, Gaelic for The Maiden, OS Grid NH007749 (967 metres/ 3199 feet), is among the most remote and least accessible of Scotland's Munros. Sir Hugh T. Munro wrote eloquently of his long desire to climb this mountain lying in the midst of the wilderness area bordered by the Letterewe and Fisherfield forests and by Little Loch Broom (pictured left) and Loch Maree. Located within Ross-shire amongst some of the most wild of Scottish country of soaring snow capped mountains, cascading waters leading to lochans with distant views to the sea and Western Isles A'Mhaighdean offers an incredible sense of discovery and the soundings of ancient footsteps thousands of years before echoing your own.
To properly frame the inspiration which can be found in travelling to this remote northwest corner of Scotland's Highlands Philip Goddard wrote Peace Upon A' Mhaighdean as part his The Great Wilderness - Nine Contemplations or Visions.
The weather in the area has been described as wild to very wild - it was certainly all that and more on the road back to Inverness at the end of my first day in the area. Subsequent trips have been bright as a penny and glorious and, without hesitation I can write it is amongst my most favourite open spaces in all of Scotland for being absolutely gobsmacked. Because of my feelings about Ross-shire (very pink) I asked Catherine to use Luskentyre Harris Tweed in bright Thistle Pink for the A' Mhaighdean Munro bag.
Brown or black bridle leather with chrome plated brass hardware (please specify) and like all Harris Tweed the fabric is hand woven and an unyielding statement of national pride and heritage can be found on the reverse of each Munro bag - the label authenticating the fabric as issued by the Harris Tweed Authority.
Catherine’s messenger bags named for Sir Hugh T. Munro for Thistle & Broom are made of specially selected fabrics sourced from across Scotland. From the exquisite jewel tones of Luskentyre Harris Tweed and Harris Tweed Textiles made on the Isles of Harris and Lewis, the entirely natural palette offered by tweeds from Isle of Mull Weavers at Ardalanish Farms to the elegant Thistle & Broom Tweeds as woven by A. Eliot Fine Fabrics these fabrics represent some of the very best which Scottish textiles have to offer.
