There are two ways of seeing the highest waterfall in all of Britain – a waterfall, by the way, that at its full flow (time your visit to just after it rains for maximum spectacle) is three times higher than Niagara Falls. The first is over land via a two mile walk across boggy ground from a road three miles south of Kylesku in Sutherland, a walk referred to as being for ‘experienced walkers only’ (take note that the path climbs to over 450m through a pass and the route can be very difficult to relocate in mist should you miss your way on the return) which includes traversing a narrow cliff 50 metres above the loch. The second – bliss. A lovely boat trip from the slip at Kylesku Hotel which will also take you to the Kerrachar Gardens at the other end of Loch Beag in Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin – white cairn loch. – I am guessing that most of you reading this fall into the ‘let’s take the boat’ mindset and so that is precisely why Agnes’ beautiful Eas a’ Chual Aluinn authentic hand knit Fair Isle is coloured as it is.

A soft white and a natural light oatmeal serve as the background, to mirror the churning peat tinted foam of Eas a' Chual Aluinn. Agnes has then deftly used a soothing range of blues, greens and aqua and bits of red and grey found in the waters (the sea loch of Lochinver and the boats required to get to see the falls) surrounding her in home in Assynt, Sutherland to create her masterpiece of Fair Isle knitting Thistle and Broom calls Eas a’ Chual Aluinn. We hope we inspire you to visit this remote but breathtaking piece of Scotland’s landscape soon.

Taking over 100 hours to complete, Agnes will realise 66% of the retail price (plus all shipping and insurance costs) through Thistle & Broom’s Fair Isle Knitting Project. The cost and pleasure of owning something that is so extraordinary it should be in a museum makes the price ridiculously insignificant. Please understand that each order is made on a bespoke basis, and 4 to 6 weeks is an absolute necessity for completion, and there is usually a queue for her work so please plan accordingly if you want it for a special occasion. If you are 'running late' on your decision making we’ll provide a gift card with photo of the original for presentation purposes.

8% of the net profit of your purchase serves to benefit Thistle & Broom Scholarship. We thank you in advance for your socially conscious purchase.
