Mary Buchanan - Cadadh

cądadh (pronounced kadoo) is an old gaelic word for tartan

Even as a child Mary Buchanan made clothes for her own dolls. Qualified from college as a Dress & Design teacher she taught in Glasgow for several years before moving to the Highlands in 1982. Eighteen years of gradual success doing made-to-measure outdoor clothing lead her back to creative youth, the extraordinary Highland Clansmen.

Self-taught the finer skills of porcelain doll making in her own pottery studio (a restored cow shed in her garden) and months spent researching 17th century Highland costume brings forth a realistic view in the form of a highly collectible doll.

Mary makes every single item to order, handcrafting everything from start to finish with meticulous detail. Making something just for you, reflective of your ancestry, is one of her joys.
