As anyone who has ever visited the Scottish Highlands, or seen pictures, knows that the dramatic landscape, the play of natural light, the astonishing colours all work in harmony provide a sense of awe. It is here on the edge of Cairngorm National Park in a small gallery space in his home in the village of Glenferness where Daniel Kavanagh redefines our concept of hand cast, limited edition bronze sculptures and hand thrown ceramics. His inspiration, the beauty and supreme isolation of the Scottish Highlands which surround his home is evident in every masterpiece he creates.
Daniel earned his Art and Design training at Stroud School of Art completing his foundation course. He then studied 3D design ceramics at Loughborough College of Art and Design it was during this training that he then moved into the field of Bronze Sculpture, beginning an apprenticeship at a Bronze Fine Art Foundry. Daniel is also a member of the Scottish Potters Association and Visual Arts Scotland.
A gifted and widely exhibited artist, Daniel is currently developing parallels between his bronze and ceramic work with metallic lustres. But for now Thistle & Broom is focusing on bringing you a couple of Danielís bronzes. These limited edition pieces are first hand-formed in clay, sculpting rather than forming mechanically giving each finished piece its own unique character. Once cast using the ancient lost wax technique each piece will require welding, special finishing, polishing and patinating. In Danielís bronze works offered through Thistle & Broom, the final surfaces are highly polished with contrasting finishes allowing the bare bronze to take on its own persona in the light and environment it is displayed.
Thistle & Broom believes Danielís sculptures are destined to become coveted and priceless and weíre humbled to be able to offer it to you for your consideration.
