With a Royal Warrant as silversmith to Her Majesty The Queen, a storied history begun as a family owned business in 1866 then purchased by the Asprey Group in 1992 and a management led buy-out in August of 1998, Scotland's Hamilton & Inches is recognised as one of the UK's leading purveyors of jewellery, watches, silver and luxury goods. As well as this, hidden above the pillared Edwardian grandeur of the Edinburgh flagship store on George Street, are the award winning silver workshops founded there in 1896.
The original workman's tools and benches are very much in evidence, this is the home to some of the finest silver craftsmen in the world. A workshop that thrives on special commissions, where producing individual pieces of enduring beauty is a collaborative process at each stage of production. It is this very workshop that provided a connection between Hamilton & Inches and Thistle & Broom, the workshop and a little help from a matchmaker named Jo Gainsburgh from Hillary Rohde Cashmere.
Already established in a relationship with T & B, Jo knew that we were searching for a traditional silver workshop for the development of limited edition pieces exclusive to our customers. We had spoken to any number of talented Scottish silversmiths and goldsmiths and the scope of the work for a single commissioned piece would not have been daunting for any of them. However to replicate such exacting quality for 500 numbered pieces and to do so over an extended period of time was proving to be a deal killer. Luckily for us, luxury brands being what they are, and in true Scottish fashion where 'everybody is a neighbour' Jo mentioned Thistle & Broom to Pippa Dougherty (Hamilton & Inches delightful marketing manager) and the rest, as they say is history.
Although their stores offer some of the best jewellery the world has to offer, Thistle & Broom has focussed upon offering pieces from Hamilton & Inches self-designed collections as well as commissioning original designs exclusive to T & B. We are delighted to have found a partner in Hamilton & Inches, a company that reflects and upholds our commitment to the promotion of Scotland's tradition, and her talent for innovation.
