Calluna vulgaris is the common heather (ling) found all across Scotland and her extensive Islands. For those under the impression that heather comes in only that familiar hot pink, some 1100 hundred known cultivars are commercially available. Mary has developed an equally uncommon and thoroughly original Fair Isle like pattern inspired by "common" Scottish heather.
With a keen eye for design and her utterly original and thoroughly gorgeous efforts, Mary has interpreted Scotland’s beloved flowering shrub into an extraordinary felted wool throw and matching cushion. Fields of small individual flower heads of the heather are broken up by ‘stalks’ of the plants. Fringe is knitted as well - - it’s very cool what Mary has done to achieve this.
These flowers of Scotland are only available in naturally coloured, no dye, Shetland wools of Eesit, Shoolmit, Mooskit and natural black and natural white. Calluna is a perfect effort in environmental sustainability to mirror Thistle & Broom’s Fair Trade model of providing 66% of the retail price to artisans like Mary. Wonderful eco-friendly gift.
